Google CS First – Setting Up a Computer Science Club for 9 – 14 Year Olds
What is CS First?
CS First is a free, certified programme that increases access to Computer Science education for students from 9 to 14 years of age, through in-school or after-school clubs, using the Scratch coding platform.
All club materials are theme-based and designed to capture a student's existing interests. Themes include storytelling, sports, art, music and sound, fashion and design, friends, social media and game design. Each theme has three categories of difficulty and up to 10 hours of coding content. Each theme is designed to lead students through building a complete project while introducing them to core computer science concepts. The teacher facilitates the process. Each club session runs for about 1 - 1.5 hours.
There are free support materials available to teachers who are running the club sessions and they include videos and lesson plans.
Workshop Details
This 2.5 hour workshop will offer teachers an overview of the materials available as well as the workflow for setting up and running a club in their school.
No Computer Science Experience Required!
