Design and Create a Christmas Decoration![]() Using any materials available, can your class design and create a Christmas themed decoration? Send us your designs and pictures on twitter at @ClareEdCentre with the tagline #SteamChallenge or email them to This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. It could be a hanging bauble, a star, a sled, a crib or even a Classroom Christmas tree! Anything goes!! As well as the creativity involved in building and designing the decoration, can the children engage in the STEAM skills of ..Collaboration? Problem Solving? Creativity and Originality? Critical Thinking? There are tonnes of ideas available online but, if possible, allow the pupils to lead the enquiry and think of their own! |
Primary Maths TeachMeet![]() Call for expressions of interest Are you willing to share your ideas about how to support children’s maths learning? Clare Education Centre in conjunction with Maths4All will be organising an online Primary Maths TeachMeet in early Spring. A TeachMeet is an organised but informal meeting for teachers to share good practice, innovations and personal insights. Presentations are generally either 3 minutes of 6 minutes in duration on a topic of your choice. Please register your interest in presenting HERE by Friday, 11th December 2020. |
IZAK9 Project 2021![]() We are looking for schools who would be interested in participating in 4 x ZOOM workshops between Jan and April 2021, focusing on how best to use IZAK9 cubes to develop problem-solving skills in the Senior Classes. IZAK9 contains a wide range of tasks aimed at the maths skills area of the curriculum and these will be fully developed. Participating schools should either have the cubes already or be in a position to borrow cubes for the duration of the course (Cubes can be borrowed from Clare EC). The course will be delivered through ZOOM but collective meetings in the Education Centre or onsite visits would also be possible, depending on circumstances. CPD Workshops 2020/21 - SFI Discover Primary Science & Maths (DPSM) programme and the European Space Education Resource Office (ESERO Ireland)![]() Whole staff CPD workshops are now available as part of the SFI Discover Primary Science & Maths (DPSM) programme and the European Space Education Resource Office (ESERO Ireland). Workshops are available face-to-face in your school or live online through Zoom. Places are limited to 100 schools for 2020/21. Workshop are FREE. Each of the CPD workshops is an online 2 hour session delivered live via Zoom by two DPSM facilitators. Register your school today for your series of three x 2 hour workshops for your staff, with a minimum of 10 teachers participating (small schools can partner with other schools). FÍS Storyboard Storytelling Competition![]() The FÍS Storyboard Storytelling competition provides an opportunity for pupils to visually interpret a story or concept or topic, use artistic media and different types of shots to convey that story in an imaginative and creative way. A full brief, judging criteria and how to enter this exciting competition is available here. The brief provides suggested themes & topics, storyboard presentation tips, judging criteria and general competition guidelines for teachers. Entries will be categorised on the basis of class age / level and prizes will be awarded across a variety of categories.
