Teacher/SNA Online Workshop - From Worrier to Warrior

While separation anxiety is a normal part of development, it becomes problematic when the symptoms; fear of being alone, fear of abandonment, somatic complaints, and worry about atrocities; hinders the child’s normal day to day living (Eisen & Schaefer; 2005.) In essence the child begins to fear the fear itself.

Make-a-Wish New Leadership Programme for Transition Year Students - Wish Leaders Programme

Make-A-Wish would love to introduce their exciting new leadership programme for transition year students - Wish Leaders programme. This includes exclusive videos from inspirational figures in the areas of business, sports, and entertainment. These videos focus on a pivotal moment in the speaker’s life or career and how they overcome challenges. Students are encouraged to identify and discuss the leadership skills in the stories they hear and then to put those skills into practice in organising a fundraiser to help grant wishes to seriously ill children.

They have over 100 schools registered now, and the feedback has been amazing. Also registration is free and there is no requirement to commit to a minimum amount of funds raised. Any funds students do successfully raise will go towards granting the wishes of children in Ireland who are living with life-threatening illnesses.

Students will...

  • Learn about leadership qualities
  • Gain insight into dealing with challenging situations
  • Put leadership skills into practice
  • Develop project & planning skills
  • Contribute to the wellbeing of seriously ill children & their community

The programme may contribute to schools wellbeing, SPHE or Gaisce hours. Most of all, this initiative will inspire and develop leadership skills, encouraging students to ‘reach for the stars’ and believe anything is possible, just like our wish children do.

For full details, download our programme brochure: https://www.makeawish.ie/images/uploads/documents/WL_Programme_Guide.pdf

'Our Say in Our Schools' Dyspraxia/DCD Children's resouce
After the successful launch of the 'Our say in Our Schools'- A resource for schools and teachers working with children with dyspraxia (Created by children with Dyspraxia resource yesterday. The resource is now available for distribution.
The resource is entirely focussed on the experiences and thoughts of the children themselves. The ideas, text and artwork came directly from the very talented children who were involved in developing the resource and provides a rich and engaging story about their daily school lives.
This resource gives children a voice and enables them to have their say on their schools and to use their incredible talents and insight into their own lives to help other children with similar experiences to themselves.
The link to the resource will be available on the Dyspraxia/DCD Ireland website soon.  In the meantime the document found HERE may be helpful.
