The Primary School Interview Process for Teachers: A Panel Discussion

Audience: Teachers who are seeking employment in Primary Schools.
Themes will include the Application, the Selection Process and the Interview.
Themes for discussion include the following:
- Application Form advice including referees, certs etc
- Selection Board: Information on makeup of the selection board; typical shortlisting criteria; agreeing the number of candidates to be called and the structure/format of the interview
- Interview Criteria: selection of questions to be asked: agreeing the marking scheme
- Responding to the invitation to interview and making an impression
- Interview preparation
- Typical areas to be covered at interview including questions on ethos, gaeilge, planning, closing statements etc
- Interview marking
- General advice e.g. don't be critical of the school website!; Use 'I know' rather than 'I think'; be confident; know the school; use of eye contact and connecting with all panelists etc
