Structured Literacy Made Simple
DATE: Tuesday, 1st February 2022
TIME: 7pm - 8pm
VENUE: Online Via Zoom
The body of research that is known as the science of reading has proven conclusively that the brain learns to read most effectively when taught using a structured literacy approach. These findings, although they have ramifications for wider education, are crucial for the dyslexic and struggling reader, because for this cohort of students it is sometimes the only way they can learn to read.
I know for some of you, with little, or no, knowledge or understanding of structured literacy, that these findings can be overwhelming, especially when placed in the situation of having to teach these children to read. However, during this webinar I will explain to you why this cohort struggles with what comes easily to most children. Furthermore, I will demonstrate to you, using my simple, but effective, literacy programme just how easy it is to teach them to become fluent and accomplished readers, and more importantly for you, how this is easily achieved in the classroom.
Bio of Presenter: Mary Moran
Mary Moran has been working closely with struggling readers for over four decades. She was trained in Orton-Gillingham(OG) and has been teaching privately, using a structured literacy approach, since with great success. Her unique method is based on viewing the child’s brain as a computer and on teaching children in much the same way as you would programme a computer. She has recently published the first four books, in a series of eight, and the remaining four will be published before the end of 2021.
She has a passion for sharing what has worked for her with students and has begun delivering CPD seminars to Irish teachers in her locality. Her goal is to help as many parents, and teachers, of struggling readers as she can to teach these children be fluent and accomplished readers.
