Bio of Presenter: Julie McInerney
I have been a Physical Education Teacher in a primary school in County Wicklow for the last 12 years. My main passion and drive to become a teacher stems from my own dyslexic struggles in school. Although the path I took wasn’t conventional, my main drive to become a teacher was to work with pupils with dyslexia and here I am! After completing my masters in DCU in Specific Learning Disabilities (Dyslexia) in 2019, I have implemented reading strategies into my school and work with many pupils on a one to one basis to assist in their personal journey through school. I feel my life experience has massively benefited my teaching as well as my extensive knowledge of all things dyslexia learned from my masters. I am a member of the DAI (Dyslexic Association of Ireland ) and DySI (Dyslexia Specialists Ireland) which comprises of a group of over 20 practising and experienced primary, secondary and further education teachers with a Masters in Specific Learning Difficulties (Dyslexia) from Dublin City University (DCU). We also hold an Assessment Practising Certificate (APC) for the assessment of specific learning difficulties/dyslexia from the British Dyslexia Association.
