Child Protection: Roles and Responsibilities of Primary School Teachers

There have been many requests to Education Support Centres for support and guidance on Child Protection Procedures in Primary Schools.
In order to support boards of management, school leaders, teachers and school staff, the Education Support Centres of Athlone, Clare, Galway and Laois have come together to provide a Child Protection session for management and staff of primary schools. This online session can be used as part of whole-school continuous professional development and recorded as part of the schools child protection procedures for management and staff.
This session will provide an overview of the roles and responsibilities of teachers in the area of child protection including; an awareness of signs and symptoms of abuse, handling a disclosure from a child, mandatory reporting responsibilities and curricular provision. There will be time in this meeting for teachers to ask questions and seek clarifications in matters relating to child protection, mindful of confidentiality requirements.
