Strategies for Motivating Secondary School Students in the Classroom
Date: Tuesdays, 5th & 12th November 2024
Time: 7 - 8 pm
Venue: Online via Zoom
Target Audience: Post-Primary Teachers
Motivation is a multi-faceted concept that refers to the driving force or energy that directs and sustains behaviour, actions, and goal-oriented activities. It encompasses the internal and external factors that stimulate students to initiate, persist in, and achieve their goals.
Motivation plays a crucial role in influencing human behaviour, shaping the choices students make, and determining the effort and persistence they invest in various tasks.
These webinars will help teachers understand what motivates (or demotivates) teenagers. By the end of the session participants will:
- Gain an overview of different theories and types of motivation
- Understand the factors that influence student motivation
- Be introduced to Motivational Interviewing and the Stages of Change
- Develop skills in recognising and adapting motivational strategies to individual student needs
- Know how to create a positive and supportive classroom environment that promotes motivation
