
The Social and Emotional side of Dyslexia

Target Audience: All Mainstream and SET primary school teachers and SNAs working with children with dyslexia.
Participants will:
- gain a clearer understanding of the impact of dyslexia on a child's self esteem in school
- explore strategies to support and boost the self esteem of the child with dyslexia in the school setting
- gain an insight into the impact of dyslexia on learners' mental health outside of school and as they progress through life if they are not given adequate supports at school going age.
Bio of Presenters: Joan Rafter & Katie Tuite
Joan Rafter is from Dublin. She is a primary teacher with over 30 years experience in the classroom. She has an interest in language acquisition and literacy and in particular identifying ways to promote self esteem in dyslexic children. She is a graduate of the Masters in Education in Specific Learning Difficulties (dyslexia) from DCU.
Katie Tuite, also holds the Masters of Education in Specific Learning Difficulties (dyslexia). Katie has worked predominantly in SET for the past 15 years . Katie is currently on career break from teaching in order to focus entirely on her private dyslexia work. She has a keen interest in supporting parents, teachers and students in their dyslexia journeys and promotes self-esteem building as a strong foundation of learning.
