An introductory, practical workshop to help you better understand AAC and use it with confidence.
This practical webinar will cover:
Alternative and Augmentative Communication (AAC): What it is and what is isn’t!
Key ingredients for using AAC effectively.
Current research, including the value and benefits of AAC for every child in your classroom.
Times when AAC can be extra helpful in the classroom.
During this webinar, Niamh will help you overcome any concerns you may have about AAC by busting common myths, discussing simple, practical strategies, as well as demonstrating how best to use AAC. You will have an opportunity to watch Niamh in action and engage in some meaningful practise, if you feel comfortable.
You will leave feeling more confident about AAC, with an individualised action plan which has been finalised by you during the session.
Bio of Presenter: Niamh De Búrca
Niamh De Búrca is a Paediatric Speech and Language Therapist and founder of Niamh de Búrca Speech and Language Therapy, a practice which offers an alternative, mobile service to families and schools. Niamh meets families at home, and supports students and educators at school and preschool settings.
With experience working in inclusive education in New Zealand, Niamh has expertise in working collaboratively with educators, and is highly skilled at supporting teachers both in and out of the classroom. Due to high demand, she now also offers online services, for example, webinars and 1:1 coaching and consultations for families and schools.
Niamh is also a lecturer on the MSc Speech and Language Therapy programme at University of Limerick where she lectures in the areas of paediatric disability, neuro-affirmative and anti-ableist practice, inclusion, AAC, collaboration between SLTs and teachers, and more. Niamh is an advocate for inclusion, and is passionate about anti-ableism, proactive support for children, and working collaboratively with parents and educators to support children to flourish.
