Exploring Student Planning Across the Continuum of Support - POST PRIMARY
DATE: Tuesday, 6, 13, 20 & 27 September 2022
TIME: 7pm - 8pm
VENUE: Online Via Zoom
Dr. Claire Griffin will present a suite of four webinars which focus on best practice in support planning across the Continuum of Support, with specific focus on the post-primary school context. Over the course of four sessions, Dr. Griffin will explore support planning for students with additional or Special Education Needs (SEN) across each level of the Continuum of Support. Particular focus will be placed on compiling the Support File and Support Plan at Classroom Support, School Support and School Support Plus levels within the post-primary school context. Using the NEPS ‘Problem-Solving Approach’ as a framework for practice, attendees will be guided through a four-staged approach to (a) identifying students' strengths and needs/concerns (b) information gathering & assessing (c) planning & intervening, and (d) reviewing students' progress. Practical examples of target-setting, creating student plans and planning evidence-based interventions will be explored, with due regard for monitoring and reviewing progress. The importance of ‘student voice’ will also be emphasised throughout the planning process, with reference to a host of practical examples for accessing the voice of students with SEN. This suite of webinars is particularly suitable for teachers working in the SET position at post-primary level, as well as for SENCOs.
