“Not being able to speak is not the same as not having something to say”
– Rosemary Crossely
In this webinar, we will take the time to consider how we support language development in non-speaking pupils. Verbal speech is not the only means of language development, though often these individuals are offered less opportunity and input for language learning.
We will cover topics including:
- Building on an individual’s strengths
- Core vs. fringe vocabulary
- Presuming competence
- Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC)
- Supporting literacy for non-speakers
- Universal AAC (Core Vocabulary Boards)
- Further resources for learning and professional development.
This webinar is suitable for SNAs, teachers and learning support teachers at primary and post-primary level.
