VENUE:            Clare Education Centre
PRESENTER:  MindSETs training (www.mindsets.ie)

Do your students lack resilience? Do they focus primarily on their failures rather than on their successes? Do setbacks overwhelm them? Do they find it difficult to deal with challenging emotions?

In our courses, we help students/teachers to understand how differing mindsets become established and how understanding the science of how the brain works can help people to change unhelpful patterns of thinking and behaviour to create a more positive outlook on life. ‘Knowledge is power’ and understanding how mindsets work is the first step towards creating more optimism, resilience, wellbeing and emotional self-awareness in people, young and old. The sessions will also include lots of practical discussions and tips on how to bring learning from the inputs directly into school and family life. It can help teachers to recognise and address unhelpful mindsets in themselves and in their students. It gives you a mirror into your own beliefs and values which will empower you subtly address attitudes and approaches that may be less than effective in the classroom.

MindSETs training (www.mindsets.ie) was established in 2016 to meet the growing demand for Social and Emotional Learning (SEL) programmes in Ireland. With over 45 years of combined experience in the Irish education sector and a passion to see SEL programmes reach Irish children at the earliest stage of their education, MindSETs founders Steve Lane and Breda Kyne offer a range of programmes designed to meet the needs of schools and parents in helping to promote wellbeing in the children in their care. Steve is a former primary school teacher with 35 years’ experience, 25 years of which were as a principal. Breda is an outreach and training consultant based in Galway. She worked as the outreach officer in the National University of Ireland Galway (NUIG).

In addition to providing bespoke training courses, Breda and Steve are the only 2 accredited MindUP™ trainers in Ireland. MindUP™ is the flagship programme of the Hawn Foundation which fosters skills of optimism, resilience, empathy and emotional self-regulation in children.  Mindsets workshops have been delivered to parents, teachers, PME students in University of Maynooth and Froebel College of Education to PDST Leadership trainers and to SNA’s.
