This course demonstrates how to audit, plan, design and create an organic school garden.
We will identify and show how to develop various beneficial habitats to increase the biodiversity in the school grounds and explore the cross curricular potential that a school garden offers and how it integrates with SESE, SPHE, Art, Languages, History and Maths.
This is a fun, practical, hands-on course that includes:
• Garden plan and design for biodiversity
• Seed sowing and plant care
• Soil care and natural fertilisers
• Crop rotation
Seed saving
• Beneficial habitats and plants for pollinators
Re-wilding for pollinators
• Native flora and fauna identification
• How to record the biodiversity in the school grounds
• Citizen science for schools
• Forest School ethos and activities
• Wellbeing in the garden
This course will benefit any school wishing to attain their Biodiversity green flag and the Global
Citizenship Food and Biodiversity green flag.
